Diversity, Equity + Inclusion
Our commitment to building a culture of inclusion
We're committed to making sure everyone has a seat at our table.
At sweetgreen, we empower our teams to find solutions that create value for the customer, the company, and the community around us.
To achieve our mission, we are committed to embracing diverse voices and providing equal opportunities because a business can only be as healthy as the community it serves.
We’re doubling down on our efforts to tackle food insecurity by donating meals to those with limited access to food with each new restaurant opening. We’re also exploring a sustainable model to expand beyond our traditional restaurant footprint.
Given that just 1.4% of the country’s 3.4 million producers are Black, we’re committed to longer term support for the work of BIPOC farmers, making it easier to onboard new and young farmers, suppliers, and growers, and removing roadblocks along the way.
We’re examining and updating our recruitment, hiring, and promotion practices to build more diverse representation in leadership and management. We also host internal community conversations to ensure our teams feel seen and heard, and are committed to enhancing our programs focused on anti-racism and bias.
We firmly believe that empowering our team to engage in our democracy will make a sustainable impact on the future of our country. In addition to up to three hours of paid time off to vote each election day, we provide our team members resources and education on the civic process.
Our volunteer-led Employee Resource Groups provide safe spaces for employees who self-identify to recount shared experiences, and opportunities to advance their leadership development. Allies are welcomed and encouraged to find support within these groups.
Our employee resource groups include:
Green Goddesses: representing women
Heirloom: representing communities of color
Parent Company: representing working parents
SG Pride: representing LGBTQ+
EnableSG: representing visible and invisible disabilities
The sweetgreen Speaker Series celebrates diverse and inspirational ideas from renowned experts and thought leaders. Topics have included female entrepreneurship, unconscious bias, inclusive design, food access policy, and anti-racism. In addition, our co-founders host Founder Firesides, where they interview industry and cultural leaders on resiliency and leadership.
With Community Impact Hours, eligible members of our team can take up to five hours of paid time off each calendar year to participate in our impact projects of their choice and affect positive change in their communities.
